Reserving our judgement on the recently announced 21-100mm lightweight zoom from Zeiss, we waited until recent exhibitions [and our opportunity to get close up with the product) before we gave our verdict. Read on for more:
To give it its full name, the ZEISS Lightweight Zoom LWZ.3 21-100mm/T2.9-3.9 T (ZEISS LWZ.3) is Zeiss’ new universal zoom has been launched with professional film productions in mind. It’s a zoom lens for the Super 35 format that’s flexible and can be used for a whole host of applications, thanks to its incredibly lightweight design – weighing just two kilos. That’s a full third less than its closest rival.
Christophe Casenave, product manager at ZEISS Camera Lenses said: “With a focal length of 21 to 100mm, the new ZEISS LWZ.3 covers a range for which cameramen previously had to use up to six fixed focal lengths. This flexibility delivers a clear price and time advantage as it is no longer necessary to change focal lengths.

Other technical features of the LWZ.3, include its calibrated scales, consistent imaging quality across the entire image field, zero vignetting, and the efficient reduction of reflections due the renowned ZEISS T anti-reflective coating.
Pricing and availability
The new zoom lens from Zeiss is compatible with a range of current camera systems and will be available starting January 2017. Retail cost sits an extremely attractive £8484.00 inc VAT
